2024 Achievements: Advancing Healthcare Services and Innovation at the National Center for Gastrointestinal and Liver Diseases

By the grace of God and with the support of the Federal Ministry of Health, the National Center for Gastrointestinal and Liver Diseases in Sudan achieved remarkable accomplishments during 2024.

Key Achievements:

1. Local Achievements – Healthcare Services:
✅ Supported the stability of services at the Advanced Diagnostic Center, including CT scans and laboratories.
✅ Operated biliary endoscopy services at a rate of 60–70 procedures per month, providing free services to all patients from various states of Sudan.
✅ Supported the operation of gastrointestinal services at Kassala Teaching Hospital.
✅ Expanded medical services to reach more patients and regions, while supplying medical necessities to gastroenterology centers in different states.
✅ Continued free provision of medications for 107 liver transplant patients, ensuring drug supply through centers in Atbara, Port Sudan, and Kassala.
✅ Strengthened efforts to combat viral hepatitis through sustainable initiatives and programs.
✅ Supported scientific research and training to ensure continuous development of medical expertise, including publishing 8 research papers and presenting 11 papers at international conferences.

2. Innovation and Creativity:
✅ Utilized a C-Arm device, originally intended for urinary stone fragmentation, to perform biliary endoscopy procedures.
✅ Developed a technique for archiving biliary endoscopies and live streaming procedures to support training and remote monitoring.
✅ Planned, in cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Health and the Kassala State Ministry of Health, the establishment of a reference gastroenterology center to serve eastern Sudan.

International Achievements:
The center participated in the International Friends of the Viral Hepatitis Elimination Alliance Forum in New York, where it:
✅ Showcased Sudan’s achievements in combating hepatitis.
✅ Strengthened international cooperation and knowledge exchange with global organizations.
✅ Supported efforts to eliminate hepatitis by 2030.
