We are pleased to announce that Dr. Ahmed Rafei has been selected as the recipient of the Young Researcher Award 2026, in recognition of his outstanding scientific contributions and impactful efforts in healthcare research in Sudan.
Dr. Ahmed Rafei graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at Omdurman Islamic University in 2025 with an MBBS degree with First Class Honors. He currently serves as the Head of the Research Office and Director of the National Viral Hepatitis Elimination Program at the National Center for Gastrointestinal and Liver Diseases in Sudan.
His research has focused on liver diseases, gastroenterology, and public health, in addition to advancing healthcare services in conflict-affected and resource-limited settings. He has contributed to the publication of more than 20 peer-reviewed scientific papers and has represented Sudan at several international scientific conferences and meetings in Thailand, South Korea, Ghana, and Morocco.
Beyond his research achievements, Dr. Ahmed Rafei has played a pivotal role in supporting efforts to eliminate Hepatitis B in Sudan through awareness campaigns, screening and vaccination initiatives, healthcare workforce training, and contributions to the development of national health registries.
This recognition reflects his strong commitment to utilizing scientific research to serve communities, strengthen capacity building, and contribute to improving healthcare services and outcomes for Sudanese communities.
