Praise be to God, the second day of the 5th SSG GastroWeek – Endoscopy Day has concluded.
The second day of the conference featured a high-level, practice-oriented scientific program dedicated entirely to diagnostic and interventional endoscopy. The program focused on hands-on training, knowledge transfer, and discussion of the latest endoscopic techniques, while addressing real-world challenges of training and clinical practice under current circumstances.
⭐ This day is recorded as a historic achievement, as it witnessed the successful live transmission of endoscopic procedures directly from Port Sudan Police Hospital with high-quality audiovisual output. This pioneering experience represents a significant leap forward in applied medical education and in-country skills transfer.
🔹 First Session: Training and Accreditation in Endoscopy
This session covered training pathways and accreditation in colonoscopy, as well as the principles of Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD), including indications, techniques, and structured competency-based training plans. A rich scientific discussion followed, focusing on globally recognized training models.
🔹 Second Session: Advanced Interventional Endoscopy (ERCP & Complications)
The session focused on managing difficult biliary cannulation cases, early complication management, and an overview of ERCP services and training during times of conflict. Practical challenges related to service continuity and capacity building were thoroughly discussed.
🔹 Live Endoscopy Sessions
The live sessions formed the core of the scientific day, during which several diagnostic and interventional endoscopic procedures were broadcast live from Port Sudan Police Hospital. Participants were able to follow the procedures step by step, with detailed explanations of techniques and real-time discussion of clinical decision-making, providing a highly interactive and valuable educational experience.
🔹 Third Session: EUS – Beyond Diagnosis
This session explored the therapeutic horizons of Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) and its expanding role in palliative care, including drainage procedures and pain control, while highlighting the future potential of EUS in modern clinical practice.
🔹 Panel Discussions
The panel discussions facilitated knowledge exchange among senior faculty and experts, addressing practical questions related to the development of endoscopy services, establishment of sustainable training programs, and improvement of the quality of patient care.
The second day was distinguished by the presence of leading local and international experts, along with active participation from physicians and trainees, significantly enhancing the scientific and practical value of the conference.
The day concluded by emphasizing the importance of:
Continuous hands-on training in advanced endoscopy
Knowledge transfer and local capacity building
