The delegation discussed the challenges facing the operation of the hospitals.
A delegation from the General Administration of Therapeutic Medicine at the Federal Ministry of Health, led by Dr. Ismat Mustafa, Advisor to the General Administration of Federal Therapeutic Medicine, conducted an inspection of Al-Managil Hospital and the Al-Haj Idris Center at Wad Rahiya Hospital in Al-Jazira State. The delegation was accompanied by Dr. Tarek Al-Ajwa, Director of Therapeutic Medicine at the Al-Jazira State Ministry of Health; Dr. Abdelmonem Al-Tayeb, Director of the National Center for Gastrointestinal and Liver Diseases; and Dr. Ramah Hassan from the Medical Administration of the National Center for Gastrointestinal and Liver Diseases.
The visit included an assessment of the Gastroenterology Department at Al-Managil Teaching Hospital and the utilization of specialized gastroenterology personnel.
The delegation met with Dr. Moaz Ali, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist and Director of Al-Managil Teaching Hospital; Dr. Mustafa Awj Al-Darb, Consultant in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology; Dr. Osama Al-Zubair, Consultant in Internal Medicine; and Dr. Mohamed Zein, Consultant in Internal Medicine.
The delegation inspected the Endoscopy Unit and agreed on its immediate rehabilitation, including the proposed outpatient clinic complex, after preparing the technical feasibility study. It was also agreed to urgently provide endoscopy equipment and make the necessary arrangements for the Gastroenterology Department to manage schistosomiasis complications and gastrointestinal bleeding cases, in accordance with health data indicating that Al-Managil is among the highest-risk areas for the disease and its complications.
Additionally, discussions focused on activating the preventive role of the National Center for Gastrointestinal and Liver Diseases in combating schistosomiasis and viral hepatitis, in collaboration with the relevant disease control departments at the Federal Ministry of Health and the Al-Jazira State Ministry of Health, with an emphasis on prioritizing Al-Managil Hospital due to increased patient flow.
The hospital director highlighted the urgent need to establish an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), noting that the hospital currently only has a High-Dependency Unit, which limits the provision of specialized surgical services that require intensive care.
Dr. Ismat Mustafa emphasized that supplying equipment for intensive care is feasible if qualified medical personnel are available, noting that the Therapeutic Medicine Administration can provide staff through the Unified Screening Program and time-based incentives for specialists.
During the visit to Wad Rahiya Hospital, the delegation met with Dr. Abdelmonem Hassan, Hospital Director; Shihab Eldin Al-Fadl, Operations Coordinator; Qasem Allah Al-Rasheed, Laboratory Technician; and a delegation from the Hospital Board of Trustees, represented by Abu Al-Qasim Mohamed Awad Mustafa Abdullah and Mohamed Muneer.
The delegation discussed the challenges facing the hospital’s operations, including the potential upgrade from a rural hospital to a specialized hospital providing obstetrics, gynecology, and pediatric services under the supervision of specialist doctors. They also addressed urgent needs such as oxygen cylinders, laboratory equipment, maintenance of the generator, ambulance, dental chair, and completion of medical furniture for the wards.
It is noteworthy that the center was established with the support of the philanthropist Mr. Mohamed Saleh Idris.
