A delegation from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) visited the National Center for Gastrointestinal and liver diseases in Kassala on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, led by Saido Sanko, Head of the Kassala Office, and Dt Gamal Osman , Kassala State Coordinator.
The delegation was briefed on the center’s activities and efforts, along with the collaborative initiatives between the NCGLD , the Federal Ministry of Health, the Kassala State Ministry of Health, and the Kassala advanced Diagnostic Center to establish gastroenterology services in Kassala and oversee services in other states.
The visit coincided with a day dedicated to endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) procedures, during which six patients from outside Kassala received treatment. These patients came from Omdurman, El-Faw, Atbara, Merowe, Kosti, and El-Liri (South Kordofan).
The delegation praised the role of the center and discussed the possibility of supporting its project to establish a specialized gastroenterology center by renovating the designated buildings at the Medical Fortress.
Following this visit, Dr. Ammar Saleh, a Health for Development Specialist at UNDP, visited on Thursday, February 13, 2025, to discuss potential funding opportunities to support the center’s projects, including the development of the Kassala Advanced Diagnostic Center and the establishment of a comprehensive Gastroenterology and Hepatology Center in Kassala State.
