Conclusion of the First Day of the 5th SSG GastroWeek – Gastroenterology Day

Praise be to God, the first day of the 5th SSG GastroWeek – Gastroenterology Day has concluded.

The first day of the conference featured a rich and intensive scientific program dedicated entirely to gastroenterology. It included four main scientific sessions addressing the most pressing challenges and recent advances in the field, with a strong focus on the healthcare reality in Sudan and its integration with contemporary global practices.

🔹 First Session: Esophageal Diseases and Esophageal Cancer in Sudan
This session discussed esophageal disorders, recent trends in the management of gastroesophageal reflux disease, and the management of benign esophageal strictures. It also highlighted the prevalence, presentation patterns, and diagnostic and therapeutic challenges of esophageal cancer in Sudan, with surgery reviewed as a treatment option in accordance with international standards.

🔹 Second Session: Gastric Diseases
The session focused on the latest global protocols for the management of Helicobacter pylori infection, updates in the management of upper gastrointestinal bleeding, and advances in endoscopic technologies, including advanced endoscopy and third-space endoscopy, as well as the prospects of advanced endoscopic resection in the treatment of gastric diseases.

🔹 Third Session: Colorectal Diseases and Colorectal Cancer in Sudan
This session addressed advances in understanding irritable bowel syndrome, recent updates in the management of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and discussed the epidemiology of colorectal cancer in Sudan, including options for early surgical and therapeutic intervention.

🔹 Fourth Session: Future Directions and Innovations in Gastroenterology
The session explored future perspectives and innovations in gastroenterology, highlighting the role of modern technologies and the integration of diagnostic tools in improving the quality of healthcare delivery.

The distinguished participation of international speakers from the United States of America, the United Kingdom, and China significantly enriched the scientific content and opened avenues for discussion on best global practices in this specialized field. The first day concluded with a closing address from the conference’s Platinum Partner, Hikma Pharmaceuticals, reaffirming its continued support for continuing medical education and the advancement of clinical practice in gastroenterology.

The first day represented an important scientific milestone that paved the way for the second day dedicated to diagnostic and interventional endoscopy, followed by a specialized day focused on hepatology, within a comprehensive scientific program reflecting the advancement of this vital specialty.

Key Scientific Recommendations of Day One:

Emphasis on Clinical History and Physical Examination

Strengthening the training of medical students and physicians in accurate history-taking and systematic physical examination as the foundation of sound clinical diagnosis.

Adherence to Treatment Protocols

Promoting the implementation of internationally approved treatment protocols and adapting them to suit the healthcare context in Sudan.

Enhancing Scientific Research

Supporting research in colorectal and esophageal cancers and developing sustainable mechanisms for research funding in these areas.

Advanced Endoscopy Training

Focusing on advanced training for gastroenterologists in endoscopic tumor resection and third-space endoscopy techniques.

International Collaboration in Training

Leveraging collaboration with the People’s Republic of China in advanced training programs for modern diagnostic and interventional endoscopy.

Development of Minimally Invasive Surgery

Enhancing surgical services and providing laparoscopic equipment to advance minimally invasive surgery and improve patient outcomes.
