Inauguration of Dr. Mustafa Idris Library: A Lasting Legacy of Knowledge and Dedication

 

With pride and honor, the library named after Dr. Mustafa Idris Mohamed Abdelrahman was officially inaugurated at the Gezira Center for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy on December 4, 2023, with the support of the National Center for Gastrointestinal and Liver Diseases.

This noble initiative comes as a tribute to the remarkable legacy of Dr. Mustafa and his lasting contributions to medicine, surgery, and healthcare. The event was attended by his family, friends, and colleagues, creating a deeply emotional and inspiring atmosphere filled with reflection and pride.

Dr. Mustafa Idris was an exceptional figure. He studied medicine at the University of Khartoum, earned his medical degree, and later obtained the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland. He then returned to his hometown, Wad Medani, where he left a profound and lasting impact. He founded and led the Gezira Center for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy as its first director, serving with dedication and passion.
As a consultant general surgeon at Wad Medani Teaching Hospital, he became a respected reference in laparoscopic surgery. He also served with distinction as an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Gezira. His outstanding professional career and major contributions to the development of medical services have left an unforgettable mark in the hearts of many and within the medical community as a whole.

The opening ceremony was presented by Dr. Mohamed Madani, Medical Director of the Gezira Center for Gastroenterology, who shared this achievement as both a colleague and a close friend of Dr. Mustafa. This was followed by remarks from Dr. Hassan Ali Mousa, Director General of the Center, who highlighted the significance of Dr. Mustafa’s legacy in the fields of medicine and surgery.

The event was more than a formal ceremony; members of Dr. Mustafa’s family delivered heartfelt speeches reflecting on his remarkable legacy and contributions to medicine. Dr. Abdelrahim Daboura, representing the National Center for Gastrointestinal and Liver Diseases, also addressed the audience, expressing appreciation and support for this meaningful initiative.

Additional remarks were delivered by Professor عثمان خلف الله, one of the founders of the Gezira Center for Gastroenterology, who expressed pride in Dr. Mustafa’s achievements and in the library bearing his name, emphasizing its anticipated impact on medical education and scientific advancement.

This library is not merely a place of knowledge; it is a living embodiment of the spirit of dedication and generosity that defined Dr. Mustafa Idris’s life. It will remain a lasting symbol of progress, learning, and inspiration for future generations to continue the path of service and excellence that he so profoundly shaped.
