Following the outbreak of war in Khartoum, the National Center for Gastrointestinal and Liver Diseases relocated to Wad Madani, Al-Jazira State, where it began its operations from the premises of the Gezira Center for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and Laparoscopic Surgery on May 21, 2023.
The Liver, Biliary, and Pancreatic Surgery Unit also began performing procedures from within the Gezira Kidney Surgery and Transplant Center starting in early May 2023, pending the full operation of the surgical theaters.
As part of the plan to localize gastroenterology and liver disease services, the activation of the Gezira Center was completed in four phases:
Phase One: Relocation of gastrointestinal endoscopy procedures from the previous unit at Wad Madani Hospital to the current premises of the Gezira Center in the Late Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim Ali Malik Unit on July 27, 2022.
Phase Two: Launch of gastrointestinal bleeding emergency services on June 8, 2023.
Phase Three: Admission of patients to internal medicine and surgical referral clinics on June 27, 2023.
Phase Four: Commencement of inpatient gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery services in the coming days.
We extend our sincere gratitude and appreciation to all entities that helped overcome obstacles and provided technical and financial support to the National Center for Gastrointestinal and Liver Diseases, including the Federal Ministry of Health, Al-Jazira State Ministry of Health, Sudanese Physicians Association – SAPA, and Suqia Organization. We pray for the protection of Sudan and its people from all harm.
