Distinguished International Participation of the National Center for Gastrointestinal and Liver Diseases at the Global Conference in Australia
Dr. Abdelmonem Al-Tayeb Abdo, Director of the National Center for Gastrointestinal and Liver Diseases, participated as an international speaker at the World Gastroenterology Conference, held concurrently with the Australian Gastroenterology Association Conference in Melbourne.
Dr. Abdelmonem presented a scientific paper titled:
“Challenges in Establishing and Delivering Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Services in Africa,”
in which he addressed the current status and challenges of developing endoscopy services across the African continent.
Additionally, the Center’s Scientific Research Office contributed 15 scientific papers accepted for presentation at the conference, providing a valuable opportunity to enhance collaboration and research partnerships with international universities and centers.
On the sidelines of the conference, Dr. Abdelmonem attended the General Assembly meeting of the World Gastroenterology Organisation, representing the Sudanese Gastroenterology Society. He also met with Dr. Alaa El-Malek, President of the Sudanese Doctors Association in Australia, and several Sudanese community physicians.
He further met with H.E. Ambassador Ahmed Salah Bayoumi, Sudan’s Ambassador in Canberra, to discuss potential collaboration with Australian medical institutions in research and training.
This participation marks a significant step in strengthening Sudan’s presence in international scientific forums and advancing gastrointestinal services in Africa.
