The Acting Federal Minister of Health, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, accompanied by the Minister of Health of Gezira State, Dr. Osama Abdelrahman, and his accompanying delegation, conducted a field tour of the kidney, oncology, endoscopy, and gastroenterology centers in Gezira State to review the health situation and assess the needs.
The tour began with a visit to the Kidney Hospital, where the minister praised the efforts made to restore operations after the damages inflicted on the center due to violations by the Rapid Support Forces militias. He emphasized the importance of operating the hospital as soon as possible to provide healthcare services to patients near their residential areas, stressing the ministry’s support for projects that directly serve the citizens.
The minister also visited the Chemotherapy Center, confirming that the purpose of this tour is to conduct field supervision of healthcare institutions and to consult with state leadership and relevant organizations to restore health services and enhance reconstruction efforts.
During the visit to the Endoscopy and Gastroenterology Center, the minister met with the Director of the National Center for Gastroenterology and Liver Diseases, Dr. Abdelmoneim Al-Tayeb, where discussions were held regarding efforts to restore the center’s operations after it was looted and damaged. The discussions focused on reactivating training programs and utilizing advanced medical equipment. The minister expressed the ministry’s commitment to providing the necessary resources to operate the center efficiently, praising the role played by the Gezira State Ministry of Health and the medical staff.
Dr. Osama Abdelrahman revealed a comprehensive plan to operate the Wad Madani Endoscopy Center, aiming to provide integrated services across various medical specialties, with a focus on addressing deficiencies to ensure full operation of the center.
Meanwhile, Dr. Abdelmoneim Al-Tayeb noted that the center was designed according to the latest medical standards with a capacity of over 70 beds, making it one of the largest specialized centers in Sudan. He also announced a phased operational plan to complete the center’s activities, emphasizing the importance of providing the necessary medical staff and equipment to ensure high-quality healthcare services, and called on the Federal Ministry of Health to provide the necessary support to address the remaining gaps.
