After the outbreak of the war in Khartoum, the National Center for Gastrointestinal and Liver Diseases relocated to Al-Jazirah State, Wad Madani city, where it commenced its activities from the buildings of Al-Jazirah Center for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and Laparoscopic Surgery as of 21 May 2023.
The Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery Unit also began performing its operations in early May 2023 from within the buildings of Al-Jazirah Center for Kidney Surgery and Transplantation, pending the full operation of the surgical theaters.
As part of the plan to localize and expand services for the treatment of gastrointestinal and liver diseases, the activation of Al-Jazirah Center was completed through four phases:
Phase One: Transfer of gastrointestinal endoscopy procedures from the former unit at Wad Madani Hospital to the current buildings of Al-Jazirah Center, at the late Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim Ali Malik Unit, on 27 July 2022.
Phase Two: Launch of emergency services for gastrointestinal bleeding on 8 June 2023.
Phase Three: Reception of patients in internal medicine and referred surgical outpatient clinics on 27 June 2023.
Phase Four: Commencement of inpatient admission for internal medicine and gastrointestinal surgery in the coming days.
