The Japanese Ambassador to Sudan, Ambassador Takashi Hattori, Mr. Koji Sakan, the Chief Representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and Dr. Noyuki Kawahara, the President of the Rosinenantz Organization, visited the National Center for Gastrointestinal and Liver Diseases on August 4, 2022, at the premises of the Mohammed Saleh Idris Center for Gastrointestinal Bleeding.
They were received by Professor Suleiman Saleh Fadil, the founder of the National Center for Gastrointestinal and Liver Diseases and the Mohammed Saleh Idris Center for Gastrointestinal Bleeding, Dr. Abdelmoneim Tayeb Abdo, the General Manager of the National Center, and Dr. Muntasir AbdelSaghi, the Director of the Ibn Sina Center for Gastrointestinal Diseases, in addition to the members of the liver transplantation team, including Dr. Salma Barkat, Mr. Abdel Rahim Daboura, Mr. Alaa Eldin Nagad, Dr. Sarah Dafallah, Dr. Maha Omar, and Dr. Hala Ibrahim.
The purpose of the visit was to emphasize the role of the Japanese government in establishing sustainable healthcare services in Sudan and to enhance collaboration between Japanese institutions and the National Center for Gastrointestinal and Liver Diseases.
During the visit, attention was drawn to the establishment of a liver transplantation program at the Ibn Sina Hospital and the role of Japanese institutions in this success. They commended the success of the first liver transplantation operation at the center, despite the economic challenges and other difficulties facing the country.
The visit concluded with a tour of the new liver transplantation building donated by Mr. Mohammed Saleh Idris, which is expected to be handed over in four months.
The visit was successful, as the center managed to secure commitments from its esteemed guests, the Japanese Ambassador and JICA, to assist and support the organ transplantation project.
