In the context of strengthening cooperation between Sudan and the People’s Republic of China, the Undersecretary of the Federal Ministry of Health, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, and the Director of the National Center for Gastrointestinal and Liver Diseases, Dr. Abdelmonem Al-Tayeb Abdo, met with the Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Sudan, Mr. Qiang Shibang Hua, and his accompanying delegation. This meeting followed Dr. Abdelmonem’s official visit to China, which resulted in the signing of several important agreements with Chinese universities and medical centers, in addition to high-level meetings with senior health officials, including the Chinese Minister of Health.
The meeting discussed mechanisms for activating the signed agreements, particularly in the field of medical training and the exchange of expertise in gastroenterology. A joint proposal between the National Center and Hunan Foreign Trade Vocational College, supported by the Chinese government, was presented to train Sudanese medical professionals in cooperation with Mindray. The Commercial Attaché of the Chinese Embassy, Mr. Guo Hu, expressed strong interest in the proposal and pledged to study it thoroughly and work toward establishing an effective implementation mechanism.
The meeting also addressed the continued Chinese support for Chinese hospitals operating in Sudan, which represent a solid model of health cooperation between the two countries. Both sides emphasized the importance of sustaining this support to ensure continuity and improvement of healthcare services for Sudanese patients.
In another key discussion, the meeting addressed pharmaceutical manufacturing in the presence of Dr. Badr El-Din Al-Jazouli, Director of the National Medical Supplies Fund. Opportunities for cooperation with the Shanghai Pharmaceutical Factory were explored, aiming to enhance medicine availability in Sudan and strengthen national pharmaceutical security, particularly in light of the current challenges facing the health sector.
During the meeting, Dr. Abdelmonem Al-Tayeb stressed the importance of facilitating travel procedures for Sudanese trainees heading to China, especially those nominated under the recent agreements. He emphasized the need to ease visa procedures and provide the necessary logistical support. This request received a positive response from both the Chargé d’Affaires and the Commercial Attaché of the Chinese Embassy.
For his part, Mr. Qiang Shibang Hua reaffirmed his country’s commitment to continuing its support for Sudan across various health sectors, noting that the partnership between the two countries goes beyond technical cooperation and reflects a deep strategic friendship. He also indicated that the coming period will witness the implementation of further joint health initiatives and projects aimed at developing healthcare infrastructure and improving the quality of services provided to Sudanese citizens.
