Under the patronage of the National Center for Gastrointestinal and Liver Diseases, the Gastroenterology Unit at Atbara Teaching Hospital organized an awareness program on the occasion of World Hepatitis Day, aiming to raise community awareness about the dangers of the disease and ways to prevent it.
The program included specialized scientific lectures covering the types of hepatitis viruses, modes of transmission, and the importance of early detection. The event also featured a lively discussion with attendees, adding an interactive and fruitful dimension to the sessions.
The meeting concluded with a set of important recommendations to reduce the spread of the disease, including:
Halting mass circumcision programs.
Avoiding the sharing of personal items such as razors and hair clippers.
Warning against practices like cupping, bloodletting, skin incisions, and whipping during celebrations.
Emphasizing the sterilization of dental instruments.
Enhancing community awareness through media channels and using educational messages and posters to disseminate knowledge about the disease and its transmission.
We believe that prevention begins with awareness, and we will continue our efforts toward a hepatitis-free community.
