State Insurance: The Government Commits to Continuing Support for the State-Funded Treatment Program
The Ministry of Health held a forum on the State-Funded Treatment Program today, chaired by the Minister of Health, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, at the Ministries Complex Hall.
Dr. Haitham stated in a press briefing after the forum, attended by representatives from all national centers, the National Medical Supplies Fund, the Ministry of Finance, Health Insurance, the Drugs and Poisons Council, and several departments within the Ministry of Health and relevant government agencies, that the Ministry of Finance has made health a priority. He revealed that the Ministry of Finance allocated $70 million for 2024, which contributed to the implementation of healthcare service programs according to the vision of the national centers, emphasizing the government’s commitment to continuing its support for the state-funded treatment program.
The Minister explained that the forum discussed the challenges facing the state-funded treatment program during the current year and reviewed the vision for 2025, noting that the program serves large groups of patients, including those with kidney disease, heart conditions, cancer, and patients requiring complex surgical interventions.
He highlighted interventions conducted in therapeutic catheterization and open-heart surgeries for adults and children, totaling more than 1,000 cases, in addition to 4,000 therapeutic catheterization procedures, along with supporting centers with equipment and devices. He also mentioned the opening of a dedicated gastroenterology center in Kassala State, explaining that there are 7 centers providing chemotherapy services, 4 cardiac service centers, and 40 dialysis centers, noting that kidney centers across the country were affected by violations from the Rapid Support Forces.
The Minister stated that budgets for 2025 have been directed to ensure the continuation of free services to alleviate the burden on citizens, and work is underway to establish kidney and liver transplant centers, as well as cardiac and radiotherapy centers. He confirmed the restoration of kidney and liver transplant services and radiotherapy in 2025.
He also emphasized that the forum affirmed the continuation of services for kidney diseases, cardiac surgery, and oncology under the state-funded program to ensure service availability. The forum underscored the importance of scientific, research, and academic participation, developing a clear vision to retain national center staff, and the necessity of holding a one-day workshop on January 1, 2025.
