Professor Suleiman Hussein, Chairman of the Advisory Council for Gastroenterology at the Federal Ministry of Health and President of the Sudanese Society of Gastroenterology, paid a visit to the National Center for Gastrointestinal and Liver Diseases in Kassala. During the visit, he toured the advanced diagnostic center and reviewed ongoing efforts to provide ERCP services and oversee gastrointestinal care services across Sudan.
The center’s staff presented a detailed report outlining plans to strengthen gastrointestinal healthcare services nationwide, highlighting key challenges such as equipment breakdowns in several states and ongoing coordination with the Federal Ministry of Health to address these issues, including shortages of medical supplies and laboratory investigations.
The office dedicated to the Viral Hepatitis Elimination Program reported a shortage of hepatitis vaccines, while commending the Federal Ministry of Health for its efforts in providing medical supplies and supporting high-cost services free of charge.
Professor Suleiman Hussein praised the staff of the center and the Federal Ministry of Health for their dedicated efforts. He also commended the Kassala State Ministry of Health and the Director of the Diagnostic Center, Mr. Ahmed Sadouk, for facilitating the center’s work.
He further pledged to oversee the provision of essential medications and medical equipment to maximize the use of available gastroenterology expertise across Sudan. He emphasized the importance of utilizing all available resources, including Social Security and military hospitals, to strengthen gastrointestinal healthcare services.
Professor Suleiman Hussein also highlighted plans to commemorate World Hepatitis Day on July 28, 2024, in Kassala, stressing the importance of engaging university students in health education and scientific research to enhance healthcare services and benefit the community.
