The Director of the National Center Continues to Strengthen International Partnerships During His Visit to China Through Key Meetings with Major Chinese Hospitals

As part of his official visit to the People’s Republic of China, Dr. Abdelmonem Altayeb, Director General of the National Center for Gastrointestinal and Liver Diseases, continued efforts to expand partnerships and build high-quality training opportunities through a visit to Jiangsu Province People’s Hospital, one of the largest hospitals in China. The hospital receives more than 20,000 patients daily and performs over 400 surgical procedures conducted by 80 surgeons.
The visit was arranged through prior coordination with Tabashir Company, the local agent of Mindray, the medical equipment manufacturer.

This visit builds on previous cooperation between the Center and the hospital, which included the training of Dr. Ahmed Omar and Dr. Hassan Al-Tigani, who completed a three-month fellowship program. Following their return, they met with the Federal Minister of Health in Sudan, who expressed his full support for the continuation of such collaborations and highlighted the important role China can play in strengthening Sudan’s healthcare sector, particularly in specialized medical training.

During the visit, the Director General met with several medical and administrative leaders at the hospital, including Professor DU Lina, Director of International Relations; Professor Liu Li, Coordinator of the Advanced Endoscopy Program; and Professor Hao XO, Head of the Department of Surgery. Discussions focused on opportunities to sign a joint cooperation agreement to implement long-term training programs in gastrointestinal surgery, with plans to involve relevant Chinese governmental bodies to ensure sustainability and long-term impact in support of Sudan’s healthcare system.

These efforts align with the strategic vision of the National Center for Gastrointestinal and Liver Diseases, which prioritizes advanced international training, localization of specialized medical expertise, and the development of a modern healthcare infrastructure capable of delivering high-quality diagnostic and therapeutic services—contributing to the overall improvement and sustainability of healthcare in Sudan.
